Canada Zinc Metals Provides Interim Exploration Update

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – September 24, 2013 – Canada Zinc Metals Corp. (TSX Venture Exchange: CZX) is pleased to provide an update on the Company’s current $3 million exploration program being conducted on the Akie project and on several of the Kechika Regional properties.

The Akie property is the Company’s flagship exploration project and host to the Cardiac Creek SEDEX Zn-Pb-Ag deposit. The Kechika Regional Project, represented by a series of property blocks including Pie and Mt. Alcock, extends northwest from the Akie property for approximately 140 kilometres covering the highly prospective Gunsteel Formation shale. The southernmost project boundary is located approximately 260 kilometres northwest of the town of Mackenzie, in northeastern British Columbia, Canada.

2013 Exploration Update

The Company has now completed seven holes of a planned nine-hole diamond drill program on the Akie property. The program began with two holes on the West Akie GPS Zone; followed by one hole each on the North Lead Anomaly and the South Zinc Anomaly. The drill is currently testing the Cardiac Creek deposit and has commenced work on the fourth infill hole. The final drill hole of the program is planned to test the SE Extension target area.

A total of 3,500 meters have been drilled to-date; and a total of 938 core samples, including QA/QC samples, have been sent to Acme Analytical Laboratories in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Results are pending. Samples are collected in accordance with accepted industry standards and procedures and routine QA/QC analysis is conducted on all assay results, including the systematic utilization of certified reference materials, blanks and duplicate samples.

An extensive soil sampling program was conducted on the Akie and Mt. Alcock properties and was designed to evaluate geophysical anomalies detected in the VTEM Airborne geophysical survey completed in 2012 as well as expand upon known soil anomalies. A total of 2,390 soil samples have been taken from four separate soil grids on the Akie property (covering an aggregate of 24 km2) and from two soil grids on the Mt. Alcock property (covering an aggregate of 5 km2). The sampling program also included three orientation lines over the Cardiac Creek deposit designed to evaluate the effectiveness of different soil horizons and lab techniques for differentiating known SEDEX type mineralization. Visual results from soil sampling confirm the presence of black carbonaceous shales coincident with the VTEM anomalies. Soil results from this program are pending. 

In addition to the soil sampling program, a comprehensive hydrogeochemistry barium sulphate survey is underway focused on the underexplored area northwest of the Mt. Alcock property including the Weiss and the Kwad properties. The original planned program has been completed and anomalous areas have been identified by field analytical methods that warrant infill follow-up. The additional sampling program will be complete by the end of September. Samples are field tested and then sent to Maxxam Analytical Labs in Burnaby, BC, Canada, for colourimetry and trace metal analysis. Results are pending.

Geological mapping and prospecting continues on several select targets on the Akie property; as well as several promising areas on the Weiss, Kwad and Mt. Alcock properties. A total of approximately 24 km2 of area has been systematically evaluated in the West GPS area and on the Eastern Akie panel.

Earlier in the season, mapping discovered the Sitka showing on the Eastern Akie panel, a new zone of massive barite mineralization in a vein or healed fault structure with abundant galena (lead sulphide) and visible sphalerite. XRF sampling confirms the presence of barium, zinc and lead mineralization. The showing is situated along the contact between the Earn Group (Gunsteel shale) and Silurian Siltstone. Detailed mapping and rock saw channel sampling has been completed, along with soil sampling in the vicinity of the showing to tie into the main soil grid. Results from rock and soil sampling are pending. The discovery of SEDEX style mineralization in this locale will provide impetus for more focused exploration on the largely under-explored eastern Gunsteel panel on the Akie property.

The discovery of the Sitka showing on the Eastern Akie panel demonstrates the prospectivity of this area that was largely ignored by previous operators as they tended to focus on the central Akie panel which hosts the Cardiac Creek deposit. The Sitka showing has strong similarities to known mineralization on the Pie property, including the Pie Breccia and Pie Main. We anticipate developing new drill targets on both panels once all the geochemical, geophysical and geological data is collated and synthesized."

The 2013 Akie diamond drilling program and the Kechika Regional program are on budget with a scheduled completion date of mid-October.

The Akie Zn-Pb-Ag Project

The Akie property is situated within the Kechika Trough, the southernmost area of the regionally extensive Paleozoic Selwyn Basin and one of the most prolific sedimentary basins in the world for the occurrence of SEDEX zinc-lead-silver and stratiform barite deposits.

Drilling on the Akie property by Canada Zinc Metals since 2005 has identified a significant body of baritic-zinc-lead SEDEX mineralization known as the Cardiac Creek deposit. The deposit is hosted by siliceous, carbonaceous, fine grained clastic rocks of the Middle to Late Devonian Gunsteel Formation.

The Company has outlined a NI 43-101 compliant mineral resource at Cardiac Creek, including an indicated resource of 12.7 million tonnes grading 8.4% zinc, 1.7% lead and 13.7 g/t silver (at a 5% zinc cut-off grade) and an inferred resource of 16.3 million tonnes grading 7.4% zinc, 1.3% lead and 11.6 g/t silver (at a 5% zinc cut-off grade).
